Schmap Photo

Macys SFO

The folks at schmap shortlisted this photo of ours for their San francisco guide.According to their website

Schmap’s series of digital travel guides integrates dynamic maps with useful background reading, suggested tours, photos from the traveling public and reviews by local correspondents (for sights and attractions, hotels, restaurants, bars, parks, theaters, galleries, museums and more) to profile 200 destinations throughout the United States, Europe, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

This photo was taken in SanFranciso as soon as we got out of the parking lot opposite the Macys store.Schmap’s SFO travel guide has a bunch of other impressive photos.

I am so impressed with this considering I had never heard of them before.I used tripadvisor all the time but this may become my new favorite.Oh and did I say I am flattered that one of our(DH took this pic,I just take the credit)photo was noticed by someone other than our parents and friends.:)

UPDATE: YIPPE! The photo is selected for inclusion in the Sanfranciso Guide

Recipe for Clean Deck

Once you turn into a homeowner you realise there is more than one thing you need to do to maintain your “investment”( as we all like to call it).The problem however is that both me and my DH are what we call first-generation-American home buyers, meaning we don’t have anyone in our family who would know things like “How to clean and stain a deck”. What do you do? Either a) you pick up the phone and call some contractor who charges you a gazillion (read 500$ in this case) to do the job or b)Go read the How-To library on Lowe’s website, then shop for hours at stores like Home Depot,Lowes, and do the labor yourself. For me ,a person who likes to get my hands dirty(truth-thrifty,i cannot spare 500$ on getting a mere the deck cleaned),plan B was an obvious choice.

So I did all the homework, like I am supposed to for most projects around the house. My DH chooses to only be a laborin such projects. With having read this, this and this went to Walmart and Home Depot and bought the Thompson’s® Water Seal™ Heavy Duty Deck Cleaner. Then spent all Saturday cleaning and scrubbing the deck.DH did most of the scrubbing, poor fella. Also thanks to our neighbor G for lending us the pressure washer.Check out the before and after pictures.Ain’t it awesome. No more an eye sore. And total cost less than 100$ (cant believe they charge 500$ for this)

We still have to waterproof (seal) the deck(Thompson’s® Water Seal® Advanced Natural Wood Protector).Ah,the BBQ is going to be much more worthwhile this year.
